Thickening Program & Retaining Length

I have decided to start a thickening program for my hair. I was inspired by   to do this program. On this program I will focus on thickening my hair.  I will not be flat ironing, curling or using any direct heat whatsoever. I will mainly be rollersetting or airdrying. Also in this thickening program I will be texlaxing my hair instead of relaxing. Texlaxing gives the hair thickness and texture, its not bone straght, its like a relaxer and texturizer combined. I will also be using castor oil on my scalp and my deep conditioner. I will also be massaging my scalp at night and will be going back to my Cayenne Pepper mixture to stimilate hair growth. I will be doing a video on my thickening program soon! I will also give more details in the video.  Now on to the retaining length part. I have gotten so lazy on my hair journey that I hardly moisturize and seal. I deep condition for a short period of time, like 5 minutes, when it used to be an hour to 45 minutes. So it's time for me to wake up and really focus on retaining length. I will be moisturizing and sealing at least every other day ( I would say once a day, but I have to be realistic lol). I have not abandon protective stying because I do that mainly everyday I HARDLY EVER wear my hair down I stick with the buns & pin ups. Rollerset definitly helps retain length, I have gotten lazy on doing those as well, but I'm starting that back up. I actually roller set my hair last night :). Alrighty I will make a video with more details on these things. :)

My Twist Out

I tried a twist out last night. I have never really had a successful twist-out and wanted to try a new method and see how it would work out. I did 7 flat twist and rolled the ends. I did these twist on 80% air dry hair. I moisturize and sealed my hair then I started flat twisted. The previous twist out i did where not flat twist but non-scalp twist and they always unraveled overnight. But these flat twist didn't unravel maybe because the rollers secured them. But I am pleased with the results, but I am still working on perfecting my twist-outs.

Rethinking Sulfate Shampoos

When starting a hair journey their are two major bad ingredients  Sodium  Lauryl Sulfate and Mineral Oil. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is bad for your hair it makes hair dry very quickly. It also strips your hair off its moisture and other essential oils. It does a whole lot of other things as well. Lately, well for about a year now, I have been just co-washing my hair and  deep conditioning every wash and clarify(Shampooing with a sulfate shampoo) once a month. Recently I found a sulfate free Shampoo, thats amazing, but it doesn't do the job like sulfate shampoo. I HATE an oily scalp/greasy roots. I find that my sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner doesn't do the job that needs to be done. What is really the purpose of a sulfate-free shampoo if it doesn't do any cleaning? About a month or two ago I was talking to my hair stylist and I asked her was Sulfate Shampoo bad for the hair and she said " Yes but as long as you do a deep conditioner after shampooing with it your hair will be fine." Right about now I am researching and trying to find what works best for my hair, not others, but mines :)

Not going NATURAL :(((((

I know you all get tired of me saying "I'm going natural" but never do. Transitioning and big chopping is drastic for me. When i transtion my hair always looks a mess. I try doing braidouts, bantus, twist, etc.. but after i hit the 4 month post mark those hairstyles just look awful. I then turned to a roller set but they always came out looking frizzy and dry but when relaxed they look GREAT. I then turned to flat ironing but that just loosened/ damage my curl pattern, made it less curly. So then i turned to airdrying and doing my flat twist hair style and thats why i'm here today saying I"M RELAXING. I plan on relaxing the last week or second to last week of May but I might just do it sooner. I really want a texturizer though. We'll SEee. Take a look at these photos of how i'm looking and feeling lol:

Dear Olive Oil Relaxer,

New Year: 10 things i've learned while on my hair journey

Hola guys! Today is the last day of 2011 and 2012 begins in less than 24 hours. This is a few things i have learned while on my 2011 hair journey, from these mistakes and learns i can learn better for my 2012 hair journey. I am excited for my 1, 2, 3 and all my other year anniversaries. My one year is in April, April 19 and im excited. So enjoy this post.

1. Mineral oil is not good-- At the start of my hair journey i was using deep conditioners and moisturizers with mineral oil in it not knowing that it wasnt good for the hair.
2. Check your products--I had a minor protein overload not knowing that the conditioner i co-washed with (Herbal essence long term) was a light protein and also that my leave in conditioner was a medium protein treatment.
3. Their is a limit to dusting-- I was getting addicted to dusting that i was dusting maybe every 2 weeks not knowing i was dusting all my progress away. ( THIS AFFECTS MY 1 year result progress, not as long as thought)
4. Be gentle with detangling-- One reason i had breakage was because i was detangling not proper, i was tearing my hair out. ALso detangle with conditioner or detangler.
5. My hair loves to stretch-- The thickness and the break from the relaxer.
6. Giving my hair a break-- My hair loves to be on a break and untouched. I really never did this only with my wig but not for long, but 2012 things will change, Senegalese twist will be my new best friend lol
7.Deep conditioning overnight (NO NO !)-- My hair is mushy and feels as if i have a moisture overload, and it breaks easily.
8. Rollersetting helps retain length-- Rollersetting helps my hair retain length, i did rollersets but not as much as i did prior to my hair journey. But my hair loves them! 2012 things will change.
9. Know the full knowledge when starting hair journey- i started my hair journey March 2011 but didnt know the full knowledge of a hair jouney, do and donts, bad products, moisture & protein balance, etc to probally May 2011(which affects my 1 year anniversary)
10. A hair journey is a whole year-- I abandoned my hair from August to december (which affects my 1 year). I was caught up in school that i forgot my hair, i wasnt taking as much care as i should have been. I was slacking on deep conditioning, M&S, and flat ironing more than i should have.

Everyone be safe tonight! Have a wonderful time and look forward to greater works and greater thing in 2012. Starting my new year right in the right place CHURCH.

Enjoy! (New year, same me, just another day)
